“…Web 2.0?” (You’re kidding, right?)
Exhibit 1
Thomas Fuchs’ Script.aculo.us: “…provides you with easy-to-use, compatible and, ultimately, totally cool JavaScript libraries to make your web sites and web applications fly, Web 2.0 style.” (emphasis mine)
Exhibit 2
Sam Stephenson’s Prototype JavaScript library - “…is quickly becoming the codebase of choice for Web 2.0 developers everywhere.” (emphasis mine)
And people bitched about the name AJAX?
J.J. Garrett did the web geek community a huge favor when he coined the term AJAX because he gave an easily pronounceable handle to a technically slippery concept — “using Javascript to communicate with server-side applications and update page content without reloading the page”.
“Web 2.0″ is a horrible, hyperbolic term that sounds as if it was vomited out of some lame company’s marketing engine. It’s as bad as the “semantic web.”
